LANCER QUEEN – Our Colonel-in-Chief for 75 Years (1947-2022).
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was appointed, while still Princess Elizabeth, Colonel-in-Chief of the 16th/5th Lancers on her 21st birthday in1947. Over a period of 75 years she was Colonel in-Chief of 16th/5th The Queen’s Royal Lancers, The Queen’s Royal Lancers and The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths’ Own) until her death in 2022.
Lancer Queen chronicles these 75 years, during which she oversaw fifteen Colonels of the Regiment and 35 Commanding Officers. She witnessed two amalgamations and visited us on 21 occasions. She presented countless awards, held innumerable audiences and was unstinting in her interest and support.
Lancer Queen is a commemoration of this relationship and the bond between the Monarch and her Regiment.
