TO ALL REGISTERED MEMBERS OF THE OLD COMRADES ASSOCIATION (OCA)
OCA CHATTELS SALE 27 JANUARY – 21 FEBRUARY 2025
With a rich heritage rooted in six Lancer Regiments, The Royal Lancers has a very large collection of
silver, which is expensive to sustain. At the direction of the trustees of the Royal Lancers Charitable
Trust (RLCT) some of this is therefore going to be sold to provide an adequate fund for maintenance of
the remainder.
The trustees are constrained by their legal obligations to maximise income for RLCT, and full details of
the disposal of the more valuable items via public auction (which of course anyone can bid for) will be
issued in due course by the Chattels trustee, Lt Col (Retd) Tim Purbrick. However, the trustees also wish
to give former members of the antecedent Regiments a realistic opportunity to purchase mementoes of
their service.

their service.
Accordingly, there will be a separate sale limited to members of the OCA and their immediate families.
This sale will be run by Home Headquarters and overseen by a OCA Sale Committee comprising the
Regimental Secretary (Lt Col (Retd) N C Everard), the Chairman of RLOCA (Col (Retd) D M Bennett),
former RLNY Museum Curator Capt (Retd) J M Holtby, and a Regimental representative (the Adjutant –
Captain A J Aldridge).
Rules:
- The catalogue of items for sale will involve selected items of silver provisionally valued at under
£100 (though of course they may sell for more). - The sale will run from Monday 27 January 2025, with electronic or postal bids being made to
Home Headquarters by Friday 14 February 2025. - The catalogue will be advertised on the Members section of Royal Lancer website,
www.theroyallancers.org with a bidding form available to download. It will be further
publicised via email and on social media. Members of the OCA who are already registered on
the website will be able to access the bidding form when they log in. - Those who are not registered or experience problems accessing the site should email
hhqadmin@theroyallancers.org to complete a form, which will then allow them to view the
catalogue and bid. - No bids will be accepted after the closing date under any circumstances.
- Individuals will be restricted to winning three items but may bid on more, unless they are
interested in others beyond that total which attract no bids from anyone else. - Bids represent best and final offers – there is no interactive / competitive bidding. In the event
of a tie (eg two individuals both bidding the same amount for an item), the one who has
secured fewer items in the sale will be prioritised. If there is still a tie, length of Regimental
service will be taken into account. - Bids received before the deadline will be assessed by the OCA Sale Committee, and winning
bidders will be notified before 28 Feb by Home Headquarters with details of payment. - No items will be despatched by Home HQ until payment is received in full: BACS transfer,
PayPal and cheques (after clearing) will be accepted - A surcharge of £7 per item will be charged to successful bidders as a contribution towards
postage: there will be winners and losers from this policy, depending upon the size of the item
purchased, but the trustees have directed that the sale process be kept as simple as possible for
Home Headquarters to manage since it is not structured for this purpose. - By individual arrangement successful bidders may pick up items paid for direct from Home
Headquarters if they prefer.
